Acer Iconia A100 with Android 4.0: A Relief

Acer has been in the neck to neck race with the other companies involved with releasing better and brilliant technologies and products, and its latest attempt at taking it a step ahead is the Acer Iconia A100. The device is simply a joy to look at. Launched with the Honeycomb version, the Iconia has recently received the Ice cream sandwich update. Now, we all know how awaited this update has been and how much better it is. Those who have seen this update know how much cooler it is and those who haven’t … have read pretty much all that is there about it.

So What?

So, this means that this 7 inch Android tablet that is power packed with amazing hardware will have the latest version of Android that no one can stop talking about. To add to that, this particular tablet is available at very affordable prices right now. So it is quite like the best of both worlds, the latest version of Android on one of the best tablets. For those who also want to look at the cost factor…this tablet costs much lesser as compared to its siblings under other brand names.

Tell Me More

The Acer Iconia A100 is a 7 inch tablet with the Tegra 2 processor which means that though it is smaller, it has the same chipset as the bigger tablets which definitely makes the working much smoother, making the user experience a definite joy.

This tablet is the perfect size if you want a big screen with portability. It is not too heavy or big but is just big enough to give you a great experience. The visual and audio experience in the tab is amazing especially if you put your headphones on, the audio just surrounds you. As expected, the tab has two cameras, front and back and the rear camera is a 5megapixel and takes excellent pictures.

Also, the touchscreen on this tablet is 1024X600 pixels; it has 1GB RAM, a mini HDMI port, and Wi-Fi connectivity. All of this just became much better with the addition of Android 4 to the tablet.

The Changes

With the release of Android 4 on the Acer Iconia A100, the first thing to know is that the tablet will now run on 1.014.00_WW_GEN1 software built, and the kernel version will be 2.6.39.4+.

The tablet has become more responsive and unlike many tablets or phones that become unresponsive and cannot handle the new software. The A100 manages even the most demanding functions of the Android 4 update with smooth ease, making the performance of the applications much more stable than before. The performance of this tablet has now become equal to that of the large 10-inch tablets.

There were problems where certain applications were missed out in the app market because of the DPI because certain developers only focused on some popular screen sizes. These differences will be sorted with the Android 4 as it works on the fact that all applications must be made for all different types of screen sizes.

It is possible now to disable most of the bundled applications that you don’t want, keeping your tablet very minimalistic and customized to your liking. The update to the applications has enhanced the feeling of using a tablet, for example, the updates in Skype have added brilliant video chat features that even some smart phones don’t have.

And What Is Not Right?

Though there are a few things to be desired for; the missing Light Beam Live wallpaper (found in the Play Store) and the very bright brightness mode and that the rear camera may sometimes get covered by the right hand if the tablet is held vertically, the powerful performance of this tablet doesn’t really make those, considerable concerns at all.

The Surprise

The reason the prices of the current tablets dropped was the obvious release of Ice cream sandwich version in the newer ones. The Acer Iconia A100 has also dropped its price, but is has the Ice cream Sandwich too….what more can one ask for?

The Acer Iconia A100 is a really good choice for those who want to try their hands on the latest Android introduction on big screens.
